I prefer to put my supplies (logbook--hard covered sketch book, compass,
gloves, flashlight, pens, inkpad, stamp, small mirror) into a fanny pack. Then,
if we are taking a longer hike I can add the fanny pack to my backpack or,
if it is a drive by or short hike, I have my hip pack all ready to go.
